 Riding high at Alton Towers

Alton Towers Parking payment MachinesMetric  Group is riding high thanks to the largest theme park and family fun resort in the UK. The ever-popular Alton Towers has installed a pay on foot system that includes six pay stations and nine fast exit ticket terminals.

Visitors to the fun park in the Staffordshire Peak District buy a £5 exit ticket from one of the pay stations and use the ticket at an exit terminal when leaving the resort. Said Richard Boultbee, Metric Parking’s Sales and Marketing Manager  “Alton Towers is an extremely popular theme park full of rides and adventures for all the family, we worked closely with staff at the resort to ensure their customers had a simple and effective exit to the real world.”

“I could say the project has been a rollercoaster ride, but in truth it has been a pleasure working with the staff at the resort and the project has run on time and we have already discussed further enhancements for the future”.

“This year theme parks in the UK were open for longer than ever before – right through to November – so it is important that attractions like Alton Towers get the best possible payment system in place.”

The automatic pay stations replace a coin only payment for an exit token, the new system provides park goers with a coin and bank note option with change giving facility for payment or credit/debit card payments.

On exiting the resort the exit ticket is validated, re-printed and given back to the driver as a voucher which is redeemable on a future visit to the park.

The system has a central computer hub which monitors some units at the park directly over a TCP/IP network, with two remote pay stations configured to be monitored over the internet due to the vast area which the park covers.

The two Alton Towers hotels have desk top devices which allow guests to have their exit ticket swiped for swift exiting via their own dedicated exit lane.
