Matt Hammond enjoyed the perfect start to his Quaife MINI CHALLENGE Trophy return with an impressive pole position for the season opener at Snetterton.
On his first outing in the series since winning the title back in 2017, Metric’s Technical QA Manager and the EXCELR8 Motorsport driver emerged as the man to beat during the 15 minute session and clinched pole position with room to spare.
In practice on Friday, Matt was struggling to get into the low 2:20s, but when he finally managed to get into the 2:19s, he knew he had a good lap. Matt said he couldn’t really have asked for more and the credit goes to everyone at EXCELR8 for giving him such a good car.
Speaking to the Quaife reporter after the race Matt was quoted as saying “I managed to get a bit of a tow on my quick lap and the car felt really hooked it up, but to be three-tenths of a second clear is mega, and more than I expected. It was one of those laps that you look for but then don’t usually actually manage to get. Luckily this time, I did!”
Congratulations Matt and lets hope there are many more Top podium positions thought out the season.
